i meant to send a postcard.
i was about to take a photo
of the first May rain,
wear a raincoat and boots,
and head over to a breakfast nook,
take muffin bites,
pour myself a cup of tea
and smile at early birds.
i thought of trying a new haircut
and painting my nails pink.
i also thought about
how invigorating it must be
to go out there
like what red cross volunteers
or mountaineers do.
i meant to send you a postcard
and a May rain photo.
i wanted to write you
that I’m beginning to be hopeful.
it’s just that
something came up
so instead i stayed in bed
and did not move.

I have found that life gets in the way of living your dreams- its overwhelming at times and the thought of whiling away days in bed, isolated, is deeply attractive.
